NLNOG.net mailinglist wijzigingen

Aankondiging AbuseIO evenement
by bart＠bit.nl 22 Dec '15

22 Dec '15

PeeringDB survey results and Board election plan
by job＠ntt.net 28 Nov '15

28 Nov '15

Dear NLNOG, Many of you are probably familiar with "PeeringDB", one of the most awesome resources for interconnection. What some of you might not know, is that PeeringDB is evolving from a bunch of php scripts into a real organisation with a board and appropiate legal registrations! And as PeeringDB stakeholder you can actually have say in how things are run! :-) Please review Chris Caputo's message below and subscribe yourself to the "pdb-gov" mailing list to stay informed about PeeringDB's governance. Being subscribed to the pdb-gov mailing list (in essence) means you are a 'member' and this will grant your organisation one vote in the upcoming elections. Kind regards, Job ----- Forwarded message from Chris Caputo <secretary at peeringdb.com> ----- Date: Tue, 20 Oct 2015 18:49:12 +0000 (UTC) From: Chris Caputo <secretary(a)peeringdb.com> To: pdb-gov at lists.peeringdb.com Subject: [PDB-gov] PeeringDB survey results and Board election plan Results of the survey which ended August 15th, along with anonymous comments are up at: https://www.caputo.com/pdb/20150800_PDB_Survey_results.pdf 91 responses, of which 89 voted for the main question: PeeringDB functions should be performed by: - 35 votes, 39.33%: "An independent 501(C)(6) (Not for profit) PeeringDB, with it's own elected board and members" - 14 votes, 15.73%: "The existing global standards body OpenIX 501(C)(6) (Not for profit)" - 10 votes, 11.24%: "The existing regional organization NANOG 501(C)(3) (Not for profit)" - 30 votes, 33.71%: "I don't care just as long as PeeringDB keeps working" That looks like a clear vote for independence, given that the number for independence is 45% more than the combined votes for OpenIX and NANOG. Based on this, we are going to continue working toward becoming an independent non-profit corporation. In the interest of broad support, this is going to be done with transparency and inclusion using the pdb-gov mailing list. The plan: - If you want to participate in the process, please subscribe to the pdb-gov "governance" mailing list with your PeeringDB account email. http://lists.peeringdb.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pdb-gov - Further emails will be sent to pdb-gov mailing list and posted to http://gov.peeringdb.com/ as appropriate. - pdb-gov is where the draft organizational documents will be discussed and refined. These draft documents are up at: https://www.caputo.com/pdb/ - There will be elections for the initial Board of Directors. Candidacies along with max 300 word statements should be submitted to secretary at peeringdb.com prior to November 15th. Anyone can run for election to the initial Board. - The interim Secretary (tentatively Chris Caputo) will send out ballots to pdb-gov on November 15th, with voting to happen through November 30th. The org docs currently proscribe one ballot per member organization. The interim Secretary will break ties through public random means. The Secretary will not be eligible for election to the initial Board. - The initial Board will decide on officers, per the tentative Bylaws. The draft documents will then be signed and filed. _______________________________________________ Pdb-gov mailing list Pdb-gov at lists.peeringdb.com http://lists.peeringdb.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pdb-gov ----- End forwarded message -----

Leuk artikel over IPv6 Bij Spotify
by sander＠steffann.nl 06 Nov '15

06 Nov '15

Zie https://labs.spotify.com/2015/11/05/oh-ipv6-where-art-thou/ Enkele quotes: "IPv6 support was enabled in the Spotify Android client in version 2.9.0. Today about 4% of all backend connections made from an Android device originate in an IPv6 network. So what about our other clients? Up until now there has been no compelling reason to enable IPv6 support other than for the good of mankind. However, Apple is now talking about making IPv6 compatibility a requirement for apps in the App Store. Therefore the iOS client has just enabled IPv6 support, which is gradually rolling out starting in version 4.3.0. ï¿ŒOur partner Facebook is also pushing IPv6 and they are implementing an IPv6-only network in their offices. The desktop client does not work in an IPv6-only network so the Facebook engineers are sad because they can no longer rock. Sad Facebook is lifting the IPv6 priority for the desktop client as well."

Last Call for presentations and Draft programme for RIPE 71
by benno＠NLnetLabs.nl 26 Sep '15

26 Sep '15

Colleagues, A list of currently accepted RIPE 71 presentations is now published at: https://ripe71.ripe.net/programme/ There are still few slots remaining for a final RIPE 71 programme and RIPE Programme Committee will accept new proposals until 11 October 2015. This is our last call for you to submit your proposals. You can find the CFP for RIPE 71 below, or at https://ripe71.ripe.net/submit-topic/cfp/, for your proposals for plenary session presentations, tutorials, workshops, BoFs (Birds of a Feather sessions) and lightning talks. Please also note that speakers do not receive any extra reduction or funding towards the meeting fee at the RIPE Meetings. Kind regards, Benno Overeinder RIPE PC Chair https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/ripe-meetings/pc ---------------------------------------- Call for Presentations A RIPE Meeting is an open event where Internet Service Providers, network operators and other interested parties get together. Although the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people to meet and network with others in their field. RIPE 71 will take place from 16-20 November 2015 in Bucharest, Romania. The RIPE Programme Committee (PC) is now seeking content proposals from the RIPE community for the plenary sessions, BoFs (Birds of a Feather sessions), panels, workshops, tutorials and lightning talks at RIPE 71. See the full descriptions of the different presentation formats, https://ripe71.ripe.net/submit-topic/presentation-formats/. Proposals for plenary sessions, BoFs, panels, workshops and tutorials must be submitted for full consideration no later than 11 October 2015. Proposals submitted after this date will be considered depending on the remaining available space in the programme. The PC is looking for presentations covering topics of network engineering and operations, including but not limited to: - IPv6 deployment - Managing IPv4 scarcity in operations - Commercial transactions of IPv4 addresses - Data centre technologies - Network and DNS operations - Internet governance and regulatory practices - Network and routing security - Content delivery - Internet peering and mobile data exchange Submissions RIPE Meeting attendees are quite sensitive to keeping presentations non-commercial, and product marketing talks are strongly discouraged. Repeated audience feedback shows that the most successful talks focus on operational experience, research results, or case studies. For example, presenters wishing to describe a commercial solution should focus on the underlying technology and not attempt a product demonstration. Presenters should indicate how much time they will require. In general, the time allocated for the different presentation formats is as follows: - Plenary presentations: 20-25 minutes presentation with 5-10 minutes discussion - Tutorials: up to two hours (Monday morning) - Workshops: one hour (during evening sessions) to two hours (Monday morning) - BoFs: approximately one hour - Lightning talks: 10 minutes The following general requirements apply: - Proposals must be submitted using the meeting submission system, https://ripe71.ripe.net/submit-topic/submission-form/. - Lightning talks should also be submitted using the meeting submission system (https://ripe71.ripe.net/submit-topic/submission-form/) and can be submitted any time up to and including the meeting week. The allocation of lightning talks will be announced on short notice---in some cases on the same day but often one day prior to the time slot allocated. - Presenters who propose a panel or BoF are encouraged to include speakers from several (perhaps even competing) companies and/or a neutral facilitator. - All presentation proposals will only be considered by the PC if they contain at least draft presentation slides (slides may be updated later on). For panels, proposals must contain a clear description, as well as the names of invited panellists, presenters and moderators. - Due to potential technical issues, presenters/panellists should be physically present at the RIPE Meeting. If you have any questions or requests concerning content submissions, please email pc [at] ripe [dot] net. -- Benno J. Overeinder NLnet Labs http://www.nlnetlabs.nl/
