[matt.larson@icann.org: Operational message: DNS root zone KSK rollover to occur on October 11, 2017 at 1600 UTC]
by Job Snijders 17 Sep '17

NLNOG community - FYI ----- Forwarded message from Matt Larson <matt.larson(a)icann.org> ----- Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2017 15:54:02 +0000 From: Matt Larson <matt.larson(a)icann.org> To: "nanog(a)nanog.org" <nanog(a)nanog.org> Subject: Operational message: DNS root zone KSK rollover to occur on October 11, 2017 at 1600 UTC The root zone management partners, ICANN and Verisign, are working together to change the DNS root zone's key-signing key (KSK). This process is referred to as "rolling" the root zone KSK. The root zone's apex DNSKEY RRset has been signed with the same KSK, known as KSK-2010, since the root zone was first signed in July, 2010. On October 11, 2017, at approximately 1600 UTC, the root zone will be published with the apex DNSKEY RRset signed for the first time with a new KSK, known as KSK-2017. The root zone apex DNSKEY RRset will be signed with only KSK-2017 going forward. While the specific date of the KSK rollover, October 11, 2017, had been announced previously, the time of 1600 UTC on that day has not been announced until now, which is the primary purpose of this message. The public portion of the root zone KSK is configured as a trust anchor in software performing DNSSEC validation. The configuration of any software performing DNSSEC validation will need to be updated to reference KSK-2017 on or before October 11, 2017, or all DNS responses received by that software will fail DNSSEC validation, resulting ultimately in error messages to end users. In many cases, software performing DNSSEC validation supports "Automated Updates of DNS Security", the protocol defined in RFC 5011 that can automatically update a DNSSEC validator's trust anchor configuration. If the software does not support this protocol, or it is incorrectly implemented or not configured correctly, the trust anchor will need to be updated manually. Anyone operating software performing DNSSEC validation with the root zone KSK configured as a trust anchor must take action on or before October 11, 2017, to confirm that their software is configured with KSK-2017 as a trust anchor and, if not, take the necessary steps to update the configuration. Further information about the root KSK rollover, including information about how to check and update the trust anchor configuration of popular recursive resolver implementations that support DNSSEC validation, is available at https://icann.org/kskroll. For the root zone management partners, Matt Larson VP of Research, ICANN Duane Wessels Distinguished Engineer, Verisign ----- End forwarded message -----

Vragen graceful shutdown
by Cybertinus 09 Sep '17

09 Sep '17

Last call for presentations and Draft programme for RIPE 75
by Benno Overeinder 25 Aug '17

25 Aug '17

Colleagues, A list of currently accepted RIPE 75 presentations is now published at: https://ripe75.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/draft-programme/ There are still plenary, BoF, tutorial and workshop slots remaining for the final RIPE 75 programme and RIPE Programme Committee will accept new proposals until *6 September 2017*. This is our last call for you to submit your proposals. You can find the CFP for RIPE 75 below or at https://ripe75.ripe.net/submit-topic/cfp/, for your proposals for plenary session presentations, tutorials, workshops, BoFs (Birds of a Feather sessions) and lightning talks. Please also note that speakers do not receive any extra reduction or funding towards the meeting fee at the RIPE Meetings. Update to UAE DTCM requirments: It is now confirmed that a photocopy of speakers' passports is *not* required. Non-UAE/international speakers need only to provide: * Passport number * Date of birth * A short biography (at least 60 words) Residents of the UAE are required to upload a copy of their Emirates ID (in jpeg format). More details are available here: https://ripe75.ripe.net/attend/dctm-requirements Kind regards, Benno Overeinder RIPE PC Chair https://ripe75.ripe.net/ripe-pc/ -------------------->>><<<-------------------- Call for Presentations A RIPE Meeting is an open event where Internet Service Providers, network operators and other interested parties get together. Although the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people to meet and network with others in their field. RIPE 75 will take place from 22-26 October in Dubai, UAE. The RIPE Programme Committee (PC) is now seeking content proposals from the RIPE community for the plenary sessions, BoFs (Birds of a Feather sessions), panels, workshops, tutorials and lightning talks at RIPE 75. See the full descriptions of the different presentation formats, https://ripe75.ripe.net/submit-topic/presentation-formats/. Proposals for plenary sessions, BoFs, panels, workshops and tutorials must be submitted for full consideration no later than *6 September 2017*. The PC is looking for presentations covering topics of network engineering and operations, including but not limited to: - IPv6 deployment - Managing IPv4 scarcity - Data centre technologies - Network and DNS operations - Internet governance and regulatory practices - Network and routing security - Content delivery - Internet peering and mobile data exchange - Connected Things (aka. Internet of Things - IoT) Speakers Due to UAE law, confirmed Non-UAE/international speakers need to provide: * Passport number * Date of birth * A short biography (at least 60 words) Residents of the UAE are required to upload a copy of their Emirates ID (in jpeg format). More details are available here: https://ripe75.ripe.net/attend/dctm-requirements Please also note that speakers do not receive any discount or funding towards the meeting fee at RIPE Meetings. Submissions RIPE Meeting attendees are quite sensitive to keeping presentations non-commercial, and product marketing talks are strongly discouraged. Repeated audience feedback shows that the most successful talks focus on operational experience, research results, or case studies. For example, presenters wishing to describe a commercial solution should focus on the underlying technology and not attempt a product demonstration. Presenters should indicate how much time they will require. In general, the time allocated for the different presentation formats is as follows: - Plenary presentations: 20-25 minutes presentation with 5-10 minutes discussion - Tutorials: up to two hours (Monday morning) - Workshops: one hour (during evening sessions) to two hours (Monday morning) - BoFs: approximately one hour - Lightning talks: 10 minutes total for both presentation and any discussion The following general requirements apply: - Proposals must be submitted using the meeting submission system, https://ripe75.ripe.net/submit-topic/ - Lightning talks should also be submitted using the meeting submission system (https://ripe75.ripe.net/submit-topic/) and can be submitted any time up to and including the meeting week. The allocation of lightning talks will be announced on short notice, in some cases on the same day but often one day prior to the time slot allocated. - Presenters who propose a panel or BoF are encouraged to include speakers from several (perhaps even competing) companies and/or a neutral facilitator. - All presentation proposals will only be considered by the PC if they contain at least draft presentation slides (slides may be updated later on).
by Vesna Manojlovic 21 Jul '17

21 Jul '17

(Dear all, here is a call - in Dutch - from SIDN. Please forward to your contacts who might be interested. Vesna) Nu open! New NOG Section on RIPE Labs
by Vesna Manojlovic 20 Jul '17

20 Jul '17

Dear colleagues at NLNOG, The RIPE NCC actively supports the establishment and development of network operator groups (NOGs) across its service region. To help with this goal, we have created a NOG section on RIPE Labs that contains useful articles and information for NOGs. https://labs.ripe.net/nogs There is also an article explaining exactly what the RIPE NCC can do to help with your NOG, whether it is just starting or is already well-developed. https://labs.ripe.net/Members/mirjam/how-the-ripe-ncc-can-help-network-oper… Please contact us (at labs(a)ripe.net) if you would like any support from the RIPE NCC for your NOG or if you would like to contribute an article about your NOG to the pages on RIPE Labs. Also, if you know of a NOG that is not included on our map of NOGs in the region, please let us know. Kind regards, Vesna Manojlovic Community Builder RIPE NCC
